Are New Opportunities Aligned with Your Goals?

Not all opportunities are worth the pursuit.

Have you ever came across something interesting and thought to yourself, “this looks like an opportunity to make some money”, you go for it, only to realize it’s not really what you want to do? One of the worst things in life is to get older and realize you got good at the wrong thing.

I’m an entrepreneur and I get distracted by shiny objects easily.

I have always thought in the past that opportunity comes and find you, and it is up to me to grab it. For most of us, where we live, who our friends are, and what we do was based on a series of events that lead up to this point in our lives. But have you ever stopped and wondered, how many of those choices did we actually make? Where we went to middle school or high school are most likely based on our parent’s decisions. Because of where we live when we were younger (also our parent’s decisions) influenced who our friends are and what we like to do.

As I learn more from the top thought leaders in the world, one of the common thesis they all talk about is to start with the end in mind and reverse engineer (One Thing by Gary Keller, Gary Vaynerchuk, Start with Why by Simon Sinek).

Life is short, don’t let opportunity that you don’t really want control who you become. Start with the end in mind, and work backward. Take control, make decisions that are in your best interest, stay focused, and look for opportunities that match your goals.
